Town Host Alsager - Match Preview

October 13, 2016

Stockport Town welcome Alsager Town to Stockport Sports Village for the very first time on Saturday afternoon in the Hallmark Security League.

The teams have met twice before but both matches have been played at Alsager, in the Men United Cup last season, and then in the FA Vase last month. Both matches resulting in Stockport coming away with 3-0 victories.

Calum Sykes’ Lions will be looking forward to returning home to SSV after two consecutive away games and will be looking to replicate the performance his side showed well they last played at home, a comfortable 4-0 home win over Litherland Remyca.

The Lions come into this fixture on the back of a hard-fought 3-2 away win at Chadderton on Tuesday night, meanwhile Alsager travel to Lambeth Grove having been victorious last weekend with a 3-1 home win over St Helens Town.

Mark Grice has been in fine form for Scott Dundas’ Alsager, scoring six in his last five appearances, however Stockport’s Nathan Neequaye has been on fire of late with 12 goals in just seven appearances since his return from retirement.

Victory for the Lions would see them continue their progression up the First Division table, rising as high as 7th if other results go their way. Meanwhile visitors Alsager, who currently sit 4th, could create a seven point gap between themselves and Litherland in 5th.

All the action gets underway at Stockport Sports Village on Saturday afternoon, kick-off 3pm.
