Background to the Club
Stockport Town FC were established in February 2014. The club was set-up with the view of giving more players the opportunity to play a good standard of football in the local area. In spring 2014 the club applied for a place in the North West Counties despite never having kicked a ball. Even with a strong application, the FA decided against allowing the club to enter at this level, citing “No track record” as the main reason.
Following the bad news, the club decided to play a season of non-competitive matches against established clubs throughout the 2014/15 season, with a view to re-applying the following year. In May 2015 the club re-applied for the league and having proven that the club could operate efficiently whilst gathering some impressive results on the pitch, the FA accepted the application. The rest is history!
The club now has a First Team competing at the top of the North West Counties Division One, an U21s team playing in the Cheshire County U21s Premier Division and an U18s team competing in the North West Youth Alliance.
The club were recently awarded Team of the Year by Imagine FM.
