Stockport Town take on Prestwich Heys in the first league match of the new 2017/18 season at Stockport Sports Village on Monday evening.
The North West Counties Football League fixture sees these two sides, who finished just outside the playoffs last season, go head to head in the opening home fixture in Division One, and it promises to be an exciting encounter.
Stockport Town come into this fixture having began their league campaign with a 4-0 defeat away at Litherland Remyca on Saturday afternoon, but the Lions will be looking to make SSV a fortress once again this season.
The Lions won 12 of their 21 home fixtures last season and manager Dave Wild will be looking to his players to improve that statistic right from the off, starting against Prestwich Heys on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, visitors Prestwich arrive at SSV, knowing that an early fixture away at Stockport saw the Lions run out 3-1 victors last August. Hey will be looking to avenge that result and get their season off to a winning start.
Stockport will be looking to entertain their supporters for yet another season as their preseason saw the Lions find the back of the net 13 times in just six friendlies in July.
Both sides have recruited ahead of the 2017/18 season, with high-profile signings like Ashley Stott and Dahrius Waldron joining Wild’s Lions, while Heys have captured young talent Rio Heyes from Division One outfit, Bacup Borough.
Stott will be looking to bag yet another notch of goals this season for his new club after finding the back of the net more than 40 times for former club, Daisy Hill, last season. Heys will be all too familiar with Stott as he scored against tonight’s visitors on the opening weekend last season.
Prestwich will be looking to their top scorer from last season, Paul Tierney, to once again provide the goals for them in this campaign, after the striker struck double figures for his club last year.
All the action at Stockport Sports Village gets underway on Monday evening, kick-off 8pm.
