Stockport Town have announced their preseason fixtures for the 2018/19 campaign and there is one fixture that stands out amongst the others. Stockport Town vs Stockport County!
The Lions get their preseason underway with new leadership once again, as Alan Lord becomes Town’s fourth manager in as many seasons since the club was formed, and Lord is all too familiar with the Lions’ first friendly opponents, County.
Alan Lord remains a part of Stockport County FC as he continues his work as Director of Youth Development, however last month Lord agreed to take over as Head of Management at Stockport Town.
Upon his appointment, Lord said: “Stockport County have some exceptional young players but they need that next level. My management team and myself now have the opportunity to merge these players with the existing playing staff at Stockport Town FC. It’s an exciting project for both clubs who will offer time energy and commitment to make it a success.”
Former Lions manager, Jake Davies, who took over for the remainder of the 2017/18 season continues working with the club, now alongside Lord in a First Team Coach role, where he is joined by Tom Upton and former County player, Bobby Lofthouse, both in coaching roles.
Town get their 2018/19 season underway on Tuesday 10 July under the lights at their home, Stockport Sports Village, as they host County in the clubs’ first ever meeting. All the action gets underway at 8pm and Lord will be looking to implement his methods into the Lions’ game, as well as eyeing up prospects for the coming North West Counties Football League season.
Lord’s second match at the helm of Stockport Town will see Evo-Stik Division One West outfit, Mossley FC, visit SSV for the first time as former Lions boss, Dave Wild, brings his Lilywhites side to Lambeth Grove. Lions take on the Lilywhites on 14 July, kick-off 3pm.
Stockport Town then face fellow NWCFL members, City of Liverpool FC, on 17 July, once again at Stockport Sports Village, as the Premier Division side are hosted by Lord’s Lions, kick-off 8pm.
Town will compete their first four friendly fixtures at home, with their final home match seeing fellow NWC Division One outfit, Prestwich Heys, visit SSV. Town will be on the look out to lay down a marker and put the sides previous meeting, an 8-1 defeat, well and truly behind them. The Lions’ home preseason will finish off against Prestwich on 21 July, kick-off 3pm.
The final preseason for Lord’s Stockport Town will see them make the short trip to Denton FC on 24 July, kick-off 7pm, before the league season gets underway in August.
Things look bright at Stockport Town FC as we approach the start of the 2018/19 season, and with the experience of Lord at the head of the club’s management, the Lions will be a team that many will be on the lookout for in the NWCFL.
