Stockport Town have officially launched a new club logo for the start of the 2018/19 season.
The new badge will be seen on shirts for the first time when the Lions take on Stockport County in the first game of pre-season on Tuesday 10th July.
Chairman Seb Rowe said "the past couple of months has seen some huge changes for the club, and we felt this would be the perfect time to introduce a new logo.
"We have a new management team in place, and the make-up of the playing squad for 2018/19 will be vastly different from previous seasons. We also have a new kit manufacturer (Nike), new kit sponsors (KitLocker.com), a newly laid pitch - so it seemed like the perfect time to make a change to the logo."
Rowe added "We always felt that the previous club logo wasn't truly representative of the club. Although it showed the the lion and the viaduct, we felt the logo looked too traditional; we are a modern club in every sense of the word."
The decision on which new logo wasn't an easy one though with a number of options making the shortlist. In fact, the board were split on the final logo. Rowe said "There was lengthy debate about the final logo - mainly how the lion would look, whether we would keep the viaduct, and which colours we would use. But in the end we were unanimous with our choice. Ultimately, its not the logo that is important, its the way that we execute our club brand which will make the difference."
The original club badge will still be used from time-to-time, and there are still pin badges available to order from the club or to collect on matchdays.
See the Lions proudly wearing the logo on their chests against Stockport County on Tuesday 10th July, 8pm kick off at Stockport Sports Village.
