The season so far for the U21s has been a testing one for sure. With competition becoming stronger due to the teams such as Salford City and FC United Of Manchester it was always going to be of high demand. Stockport Town U21s are going through a time of transition due to coaching staff and players changing from last year.
However with all this happening is fair to say the 21s have started well taking a lot of points from the games played. Sitting currently 5th in the premier division is showing the hard-work both the staff and players are working when amongst each other.
Callum Davies (U21’s Head Coach) had this to say following the teams steady start in the premier division:
“It’s early days within the season, we could’ve started better but on the flip side it could of been worst. Trying to get a consistent team selection to start with has been a problem, we are carrying lots of injuries at the moment so are doing well with what we have available.
I’m sure once we have players back around with us and can stay fit, we will continue to take more points and push further on as a group. It’s important we don’t see winning as the main priority, although we’d like to win as much as possible developing these players so they are physically and mentally prepared to push for first team places is our end goal.
Reece Skelton, Kieran O’Connell and Liam Mottram being prime examples of the success from last year. We’re a happy camp and still bonding with one another, our time will come.”
