Alan Lord's men make it 3 wins in a row with a comfortable 2-0 win away at Alsager Town.
There were a number of changes to the starting line up following the win against Tranmere Rovers, with Whitty, Arthur and Holt replacing O'Connell, Salmon and Lofthouse. Kiarno Samms who had started the Tranmere game in defence was moved back in to the striker role, a move which proved to be a masterstroke. George Blackwell, recently re-signed, was named on the bench.
Alsager Town made a good start to the game forcing Stinca into an early save, diving to his left to catch a driving effort. Minutes later and Stockport were on the attack, Callum Dolan, fresh from his December Macron Player of the Month Award exposing the Alsager defence before being upended in the box - Penalty.
Kiarno Samms stepped to slot the ball home. 1-0
Dolan was in again on 9 minutes, latching on to a long ball from Hancock, but was denied by the Alsager keeper when through on goal.
There was little action for the majority of the first half as the Lions controlled possession on a difficult pitch. There was little coming from the home team. On 37 minutes Dolan was involved again, whipping in a ball from the left which Arthur made connection with, but Alsager somehow managed to scramble it to safety.
The afternoon got better for Stockport on 43 minutes when Samms capitilised on some poor Alsager defending to slot home home in side the area with his weaker left foot. Dolan's ball over the top had been the catalyst, the Alsager defence completely misjudging the bounce. It was Samms 6th goal of the season.
Into the second half and Stockport started the better. On 51 minutes the Alsager keeper was forced into a good stop to deny Dolan whose bobbling effort could have ended up anywhere. Moments later and Alsager came close to scoring, with the striker dinking an effort just wide of Stinca's post.
George Blackwell replaced Foley in the 64th minute to make his third debut for the club and soon after Kiarno Samms came close to getting his hat-trick, Skelton's through ball falling perfectly for the captain to curl towards the top corner from 18 yards. It missed by inches.
On the 75th minute Dolan's 25-yard curling freekick was expertly saved by the Alsager keeper. The only other chance in the game fell to the home team in the 84th minute, who missed a guilt edge chance from 6 yards, blazing high and wide.
Two goals for the captain Kiarno Samms against his former team. The lions will look to make it 4 wins in a row travelling to Manchester rivals Maine Road on Sat 2nd Feb, 3pm Kick Off.
