FC Isle Of Man Match Review

A late Ethan Padden goal secured the 3 points and win for Stockport Town in a wet Douglas.


The Lions were able to fly home knowing that they have secured all three points after a late goal by Ethan Padden in a 2-1 win against the Ravens.


Town were dominating the early exchanges at The Bowl but it was FC Isle Of Man player Whitley found space on Towns left side to put in a cross which found the head of Doyle, who heaaded the Raves into a 1-0 against the run of play.


In the 33rd minute Town put in a great cross into the box which found McLaughlin’s head but it rebounds off the post and is cleared.


For the rest of the half, Town were controlling possession and attacking the FC Isle Of Man defence, however ust before Half Time, the Hosts won a free kick, it was taken, and eventually ended up finding the head of one of FC Isle of Man’s players and the ball looked to be into the top right corner of Town’s net. However, Schofield saved brilliantly to deny a second FC Isle Of Man goal.


The Lions went in at Half Time 1 goal behind but could take great credit from the first half performance.


In the second half, Town came out fighting and took full control of the game not allowing The Ravens to have control of the ball and were constanly attacking the home sides goal.


In the 59th minute, Town made their first sub for the game, Toby Green come off for Jamie Walsh. Toby returned to the starting line up after a number of months out with injury, whilst his replacement Jamie Walsh was also returning to action after a spell on the sidelines.


In the 62nd minute, Keane Barugh picked up the ball on the edge of the Ravens box, his inital shot was blocked but the ball broke back to Barugh and he rifled a 18 yard shot, straight into the back of the net for the Lions deserved equaliser. But the Town weren't finished yet.


Just after the goal, FC Isle of Man made a double sub which saw Sam Baines and Luke Booth come off for Charlie Higgins and Danny Gerrard.


In the 65th minute, the assistant match official was called into action as he correctly rules Sean Doyle offside as he slotted the ball into the back of the net.


Town made another substitute in the 67th minute. This sub saw Harley Monaghan come off with George Omokua coming on.


In the 75th minute, Barugh went down In the box and shouts for a penalty were waved away, just a minute later Ravens made their second double sub of the match, this saw Sean Doyle and Dean Pinnigton come off for Daniel Hattersley and Tom Creer.


The Lions looking for the winner made another sub in the 79th minute, which saw recent new signing, from Avro, Darren Ehimamiegho come on with Daniel McLaughlin coming off.


In the 85th minute, A Raven attack was halted and the ball was played to the lively Ehimamiegho, he ran into the hosts half and sent a through ball over to Padden who slotted home Towns second of the game and sent players, staff and travelling fans into raptures.


With four minutes added on, Town made the last substitutes which saw Josh Edwards come off for Alex Harvey. and Jeffry Edos Oni come on for the energetic Jack Atkinson.


This was the last action of the match as the referee blew the final whistle seeing the traveling Stockport Town go home with all three points.


This result sees Stockport Town jump up to eighth place and only four points outside the playoff place. Meanwhile, FC Isle of Man remain in fifth place and three points ahead of FC St Helens but now have Irlam, Stockport Town, West Didsbury & Chorlton, Padiham and AFC Liverpool chasing them for the playoff spot.


The next match for Stockport Town will be against third place Ramsbottom United at Stockport Sports Village on Saturday 21st December.
