Match Preview

Stockport Town welcome title fighters Bury FC to Stockport Sports Village for a crucial North West Counties Football League Premier Division fixture on Saturday.

The Lions get prepared for a crucial league fixture against Bury FC on Saturday at SSV.

Last time out for The Lions, it was a narrow defeat at Stockport Sports Village against Irlam FC on Monday night. A goal by Dan McLaughlin put Town in the lead but two second half goals by John Johnston and Mitchell Henry sealed the win for Irlam and pushed the away side closer to the playoff places.

That match saw Town remain in ninth place and seven points behind the playoff places but allowing the chasing pack of Charnock Richard, FC St Helens and AFC Liverpool to get closer to Town.

The last time The Shakers and The Lions played each other it was a 2-1 win for Bury at Gigg Lane with goals from Rustam Stepans and Sam Coughlan securing the win for the hosts but a late conciliation goal by Harley Monaghan made the score 2-1.

The Opponents:

Bury FC are currently in their third season in the NWCFL Premier Division after they achieved promotion from the NWCFL Division One North in the 2021/2022 season.

So far this season, the Shakers sit in second place and only a point behind title rivals and local rivals Ramsbottom United, but they sit six points ahead of Lower Breck. Bury also managed to get to the fourth qualifying round of the FA cup losing to Harborough Town 1-0 but beating National League North Side Radcliffe FC 3-2 away from home in the round prior.

The Shakers current form sees them with three wins, one draw and one loss with their wins coming against Prestwich Heys, Barnoldswick and Lower Breck. Bury’s most recent win was a 3-2 win at Gigg Lane against Lower Breck.
