Stockport Town make it two wins in two games after beating local rivals Abbey Hey at the Abbey Stadium on Tuesday night
The Lions secured another 3-0 win in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division after George Kattah and Josh Fowles scored against the Red Rebels.
Abbey Hey were looking to earn their first win of the season, as their first game of the season ended in a 1-1 draw against Burscough on Saturday, 26th August. Meanwhile, Town were looking to secure another win after previously beating South Liverpool 3-0 on Saturday.
Early on in the first half, George Kattah was eager to continue his good goalscoring start to the season when he received the ball 15 yards out from the Abbey Hey goal, but he just overran the ball, and the chance was cleared by the Abbey Hey defenders.
Abbey Hey had their first chance to take the lead as the ball was lofted into the box by their right winger, Jamal Crawford into the middle of the box for the striker Rhys Clooney, whose header almost found the bottom right corner of the net, but Josh Schofield was able to get down low and comfortably get hold of the ball.
In the 15th minute, Abbey Hey had a great chance to open the scoring as the ball was sent into the box for the Abbey striker, whose half volley rebounded off the bar and away to safety.
In the 44th minute, Paul Turnbull leaped high to head the ball back into the box from a set piece for George Kattah, who finished brilliantly on the stretch past the Abbey Hey goalkeeper

Not long into the second half, Town had an excellent chance to double the lead as Abbey Hey’s keeper came out of the net to clear the ball, but the Lions nicked the ball through Kattah. Kattah squared the ball to Toby Green, but his effort was blocked by Abbey Hey and the scoreline remained 1-0 to Town.
In the 54th minute, Abbey Hey’s number 10, Clooney, was shown his second yellow of the day for a nasty tackle on Sam Hare. The home side would play the remainder of the match with 10 players.
In the 61st minute, it was 2-0 as George Kattah raced onto a ball over the Abbey Hey defence and clear on goal with only Beard in the Abbey Hey goal to beat, he fantastically slotted home to give The Lions a two-goal lead.
After the goal, Town made their first change of the day. This saw Ollie Kvaternik come off for Callum Gardner.
Town were having plenty of possession and controlling the game, finding plenty of space. In the 70th minute, Josh Fowles replaced Keane Barugh.
In the 77th minute, Harry Lomakin Rogers played in a left-wing cross, aimed at George Kattah, but the number 9 couldn’t get his head on the ball, and the Abbey Hey defenders cleared the ball.
In the 83rd minute, Sam Hare was hit straight in the face with a fierce right-wing cross from Abbey Hey, which resulted in the Captain being replaced by Ethan Padden. Summer signing Gabriel Cole taking over the captaincy.
In the 91st minute, Toby Green was booked for attempting to get in the path of a free kick. After this booking, Toby Green was replaced by Terry Benson-Brewer.
In the 95th minute, Gardner whipped an excellent right-footed cross into the box for Josh Fowles, who headed the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0

This result means the Lions are now top of the table after two games with two wins, six goals, and zero conceded. Meanwhile, this result sees Abbey Hey drop to 22nd in the table with only one point to their name. Stockport Town’s next match is against Chadderton FC on Saturday, 2nd August in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.
