Turnbull’s Town Hit 4 and win 4 on the bounce

In horrible blustery and wet conditions, Town’s home game against Cammell Laird 1907 FC was only 1 of 2 fixtures on in The North West Counties South Division and all Town supporters will be please the game did go ahead.

Town with a slow start could quite easily of conceded 2 goals from set pieces inside 10 minutes, but Captain Ebhote motivated the players and Town attacked and pressed Lairds continuously. Winning a corner in the 20th Minute, a well worked routine found a deep delivery headed back across goal from Ebhote to Elstone who rifled home from just outside the 6 yard box. That Goal was Elstone’s 8th of the season and 4th Goal since returning to Town in January. That Goal sparked the Lions into action and they went onto score a wonderful 20 yard + effort by left back Josh Edwards to make it 2-0 to Town. Great work down the right by Toby Green who skipped past his marker and played the ball into midfield where Edwards fired from distance past the Lairds keeper. Just 2 minutes later and it was 3-0, Tanswell-Vargas rounded off a great and manic 12 minute period for Town, he pounced on slack Lairds defended and coolly finished low and hard to send the Lions into Half Time 3 goals to the good.

As the second half started, somewhat surprisingly the sun came out over Woodley and turned into a bright but fresh afternoon. The change in weather also kicked started Lairds who started the second half the same way they started the first, obviously on the back of a few harsh words from their Manager Stuart Keir. In a very even second period, chances didn’t come along very often and Lairds made the game a real battle. However Towns fitness showed and in the 88th minute when substitute Jackson rounded off another great day with a well worked goal. Jackson had caused problems since entering the pitch. His goal and Towns 4th was a great individual effort, he took on 2 Lairds defenders and raced through on goal and calmy slotted the ball past the keeper.

The win was Manager Turnbull’s 4th in a row since taking change, who now leads his team too the re-arranged fixture against Wythenshawe Amateurs on 22nd February in what will be the third attempt to play the game. This will be one of 3 away games on the bounce for Town who are next at SSV on Saturday 5th March when we welcome Eccleshall to SSV.
