Stockport Town suffered their first defeat in pre-season against Northern Premier League Premier Division side Hyde United at Ewen Field Stadium
The Lions ended their fourth pre-season fixture with a 2-1 defeat against the Tigers, with the only goal for the Lions coming from Trialist A in the second half.
In a quiet and even start to the game, it suddenly livened up as Hyde had a great chance to open the scoring but it was brilliantly saved by Town’s goalkeeper Josh Schofield.
Town were playing great Football and attacking at every chance with some fantastic passing. In the 30th minute, the exciting and lively Keane Barugh took on two Hyde United players and was hauled down in the box, but the referee waved away the Town appeals and play continued.
Just after this a rare first half chance for Hyde United, as they raced away one on one with Josh Schofield, he saved but the ball looped in the air and looked certain to hit the back of the net, until the flying Paul Turnbull cleared brilliantly off the line to keep the scores at 0-0.
A slow start to the second half by The Lions and Hyde United coming out strong saw multiple chance for the Home side and if it wasn’t for the excellent Josh Schofield in Town’s goal then the home side would of scored.
In the 57th minute, Hyde did take the lead. A long range shot was blocked by Gabriel Cole and found its way to Hyde substitute Lewis Rawsthorn who finished past the diving Schofield.
Not long later, in the 59th minute, the ball was played over the top of Town's defence and through for Rawsthorn once again, who was able to then hold off his man and slot the ball past Schofield to make it 2-0.
Ten minutes later, Town made their first few changes as Paul Turnbull, Owen Kirby, and Harley Monaghan would come off for Alex Harvey, Callum Gardner, and Ethan Padden.
Town had weathered the storm and had come back into the game, finding their excellent passing game again.
In the 75th minute, Paul Turnbull by more subs as Sam Hare, Oliver Kvaternik, and Keane Barugh would be replaced by Kylan Depeiaza, Rhys Ferguson, and Josh Fowles.
In the 84th minute, Kylan Depeiaza won the ball on the left flank from Hyde’s right back, and he crossed the ball into the box for Trialist A, who leaped above the Hyde United defender and headed powerfully into the goal.
Town, now on top, were seeking an equaliser and once again had big appeals for another penalty waved away.
Josh Fowles was through on goal after a great through ball. He controlled well and just as he was about to shoot was hauled down, but once again the referee waved away the protests and would then finally blow his whistle and bring an end to the game.
