Match Report: Pilkington FC 1–2 Stockport Town
NWCFL Premier Division | 10.09.2025 |
Stockport Town earned a vital three points on the road with a 2–1 comeback victory away from home at Pilkington FC, capping off a strong performance full of resilience and attacking intent.
The Lions started brightly and almost made the perfect start, striking the post through Harley Monaghan in the early stages of the first half.
However, it was the hosts who went ahead, with Andrew Starkley firing them in front against the run of play.
Town continued to create openings but went into the break trailing 1–0.
The response after half-time was immediate. A well-placed header from Kattah, looping over the goalkeeper, brought the Lions level. From there, Town took control of the match. Toby Green nearly edged Town ahead with a driving run and shot that cannoned off the post – the second time the woodwork had denied The Lions.
The breakthrough and Town's second goal finally arrived on the hour mark, when Green delivered a composed half volley finish to put Stockport Town 2–1 in front. The Lions continued to press and created further chances, striking the post twice more – through Kattah late on and then via a superb effort from Callum Gardner in the 86th minute, with his first touch of the ball after coming on as a substitute.
Despite the narrow scoreline, Stockport Town managed the closing stages well to secure the win. The result reflects a determined team performance, with four efforts against the woodwork underlining the Lions’ attacking dominance.
The final whistle confirmed a 2–1 victory and three vital points away from home.
Next up, Stockport Town are on their travels once again, as they face Ramsbottom United on Saturday 13th September in what promises to be another tough test.
