Stockport Town excellently won their first game of the new North West Counties Football League Premier Division season after beating Merseyside outfit South Liverpool at Jericho Lane

The Lions returned to Stockport with all three points after winning 3-0 against the South.

Prior to this game, both South Liverpool and Town were hoping to secure all three points to start the new season as best as they could.

It wouldn’t take long for the Lions to have a chance, as number 9 George Kattah received an excellent first-time pass from Toby Green and found his way through on goal with only Lucas Allen, the South’s keeper, to beat. Kattah would then brilliantly put the ball past the keeper, putting Town ahead after just three minutes, sending the Town away supporters into raptures.

Harry Lomakin Rogers denied South Liverpool with a brilliant last-ditch block, a great challenge to keep the score at 1-0 to The Lions.

In the 31st minute, Turnbull lofted the ball towards Jack Atkinson, who brought the ball down and played it into the six-yard box, the ball was just too, short for the waiting Kattah and the South Liverpool goalkeeper collected.

It wouldn’t take long for Town to create another chance, as the ball would be sent over the South’s back line by Jack Atkinson and into George Kattah, who was able to rifle the ball off the crossbar and into the net to make it 2-0 to the Lions.

Half Time – South Liverpool 0-2 Stockport Town

After the break, Town had a chance to make it three through Toby’s Green half volley, but his effort was straight at the South keeper.

Town made a change just after the hour mark, and this saw Jack Atkinson come off for Ethan Padden.

In the 77th minute, George Kattah had a chance to grab his hat trick on his league debut for Town, but his effort was just poked wide.

After George Kattah’s chance, Town would make their second substitution of the day as Ollie Kvaternik was replaced by Josh Fowles.

In the 80th minute, South Liverpool had their best chance of the day as the ball was lifted over Schofield and goalbound, but the fantastic Turnbull was there to acrobatically clear the ball off the line, recreating what he did earlier in pre-season at Hyde United.

After that chance, Town made their third change as Harley Monaghan was subbed off for Callum Gardner.

In the final minutes of the game, the South’s keeper made a mistake from a goal kick, which allowed Josh Fowles to take the ball and slot it into the empty net to make it 3-0 to Town in the dying moments of the game.
